Benefits of reciting the Quran

Benefits of reciting the Qur’an:

1-You will be from the best of the people.

Uthmaan رضي الله عنه said that Prophet ﷺ

said: “The best of you are the ones who learn the Qur’an and teach it to others” [Al-Bukhari]

2-There are ten rewards for each letter you recite from the Qur’an.

“Whoever reads a letter from the Book of Allah, he will have a reward. And that reward will be multiplied by ten. I am not saying that “Alif, Laam, Meem” is a letter, rather I am saying that “Alif” is a letter, “laam” is a letter and “meem” is a letter.” [at-Tirmidhi]

So increase your recitation of the Qur’an to gain these merits, and to gain the following merit as well.

3- The reciters of the Qur’an will be in the company of the noble and obedient angels.

Aisha رضي الله عنها relates that The Prophet ﷺ said: “Verily the one who recites the Qur’an beautifully, smoothly, and precisely, he will be in the company of the noble and obedient angels. And as for the one who recites with difficulty, stammering or stumbling through its verses, then he will have TWICE that reward.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Do not let the Shaytaan make you lose hope, or plant the excuses in your mind such as “I am not an ‘Arab,” or “Its not my language.” This hadith is a firm proof against these whisperings.

Dedicate yourself to the Book of Allah whether you are an Arab or not! The excuses have been eliminated and the pathway has been cleared for you to embrace the Book of Allah without holding back or offering excuses.

4-Your position in Paradise is determined by the amount of Qur’an you memorize in this life!

‘Abdullaah ibn ‘Amr ibn Al-’Aas رضي الله عنه heard The Prophet ﷺ saying: “It will be said to the companion of the Qur’an: Read and elevate (through the levels of the Paradise) and beautify your voice as you used to do when you were in the dunyaa! For verily, your position in the Paradise will be at the last verse you recite!” [Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi]

5- The Qur’an will lead you to Paradise!

The Prophet ﷺ said: “The Qur’an is an intercessor, something given permission to intercede, and it is rightfully believed in. Whoever puts it in front of him, it will lead him to Paradise; whoever puts it behind him, it will steer him to the Hellfire.” [At Tabarani]

Surah al-Baqarah – Part 2

17-18 Allah strikes the parables of fire and water to describe the state of these hypocrites. As for the fire, it’ll illuminate the surroundings and in an instant Allah would take away their light, leaving them in the darkness.

Such people are deaf, mute and blind to the commands of their Lord and they’ll not find a way back to Him.

19- As for the parable of water, it is as if a rainstorm would nearly drown them and the lightening and thunderclaps would increase their dread of death; Allah knows how to surround the disbelievers from all sides.

20- The lightening is such that it almost took away their eyesight, they can only muster the strength to walk when they see the light and as soon as the darkness strikes, they stop in their tracks out of fear. Had Allah willed, He’d have taken away their hearing and eyesight since He is capable of doing all things.

21-22 Mankind has been commanded to worship its Lord, the One who created them, and was present before their creation. Thinking about these signs will increase the fear of their Lord in their hearts.

The Lord of the mankind is the One who created the Earth and spread it out, and created the Sky as a ceiling, and sent down water from the sky so that the earth sends forth its fruits as provisions for them. All Allah wants in return is that we do not associate partners with Him.

23- And if you are in a doubt with regards to what was sent down on Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, the Servant of Allah, then you can clear your doubts by trying to produce a chapter similar to the one found in this Quran, and you can also call upon your witnesses besides Allah to support you in this if you’re truthful.

24- However, if you don’t do it, and never will you be able to do it, then fear the fire that will be fuelled by humans and stones, prepared especially for the disbelievers.

25- Give glad tidings to the ones who believed and did good deeds of Paradise with rivers flowing beneath the gardens, the provisions of paradise would remind the believers of that which they used to enjoy in their worldly life, the likeness will be found in their shapes and delights, and their spouses will be purified for them to live with them for an eternity.

26- Allah does not shy away from striking example of a mosquito or anything that’s above it; as for the ones who believed in their Lord will know the truth is from Him, and as for the ones who’ve disbelieved, they’ll question what Allah intended to prove with this example. By striking examples, Allah misleads and guides many people, but only the defiantly disobedient people are misguided by these examples.

27- The defiantly disobedient are the ones who break their covenant with their Lord after contracting it, and severe all that their Lord has commanded them to join while causing corruption in the land- they’ll indeed be among the losers.

28-29 How can you disbelief in your Lord when He gave you life after death, and when He will make you die and raise you again, and when you’ll ultimately return to Him?

He is indeed your Lord, who has created all that is on this Earth for you to make use of, and directed Himself to Heaven and fashioned them into seven heavens, and is familiar and has the knowledge of everything.

30- When Allah gathers the angels and tells them that He’ll place His vicegerent on Earth, the angels discuss if that decision of their Lord would cause corruption on Earth while they glorify an exalt Him in the heavens? Allah tells them that He has a bigger plan for things since He has knowledge of things they do not know of.

Surah al-Baqarah – Part 1

FDA2D824-FFE9-4D8D-BF36-AC248CBC19811- Allah starts the chapter in this Final Revelation with letters only He knows the meaning of.

2-3 This Book is a doubtless guidance for all those who truly fear their Lord, and believe in the Unseen while performing their obligatory prayers and helping the poor and the needy.

4- These people also believe in the Final Revelation and all that was revealed previously by their Lord. The belief incorporates the afterlife hence the believers plan for the future and live their lives accordingly.

5- The belief and actions of people will determine their end in the next life, and only the true believers will succeed in attaining the pleasure of their Lord.

6-7 The ones who disbelieved, on the other hand, will not benefit from the revelation or the reminders. Allah has sealed their hearts so neither do they comprehend the message nor do they understand the wisdom behind it. For these people, the punishment in the next life will be great.

8-9 Another category of people tries to trick the believers by professing belief in Allah and the afterlife when in reality they are not believers.
These people are only deluding themselves and wasting their time and their efforts shall all be in vain.

10- The reason for their hypocrisy is the sickness of their hearts rooted in lies which will lead to their punishment in the next life.

11-12 These hypocrites will claim they’re peacemakers in the land while they’d be among those causing corruption; they do not truly comprehend the extent of their corruption nor can they tell how misguided their actions are.

13- When they’re commanded to follow the Messenger ﷺ and profess belief like his companions رضي الله عنهم, the hypocrites make fun of the believers, when in reality, the hypocrites are the ones scorned and lack the ability to comprehend and profess true faith.

14-15-16 The hypocrites who profess belief in the company of the believers and mock them behind their backs shall be recompensed by Allah in a similar manner. They have in reality sold their afterlife for this worldly life by replacing belief with disbelief, so their punishment befits their crime.

Surah al-Fatiha – Part 2

29FAB1D0-4F50-4ED9-A4DA-03C39BBB2A02

‎We begin with the name of Allah:
‎ ِبِسْمِ الله
‎We seek help from Allah by calling upon Him.
‎Shirk is the opposite of this; people seek help of those other than Allah.

‎When we say بسم الله, Shaitan loses any control or power over us. Remembrance of Allah should fuel our every step forward in this life.

‎الرحمن: The Most Merciful
‎الرحيم: The Mercy-Giving
‎These are the two names & attributes of Allah.

‎بِسْم الله الرحمن الرحيم is at the start of every chapter in the Quran, and is part of two Surahs separately as verses: Surah al-Fatihah, and Surah an-Naml. The only chapter of the Quran which does not begin with بِسْم الله is Surah at-Tawbah.

‎الحمد is all Praise which belongs to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.
‎رب is another name and attribute of Allah mentioned in this chapter and it means the Master, the Owner, and the King.

‎The Most Merciful’s -الرحمن- Mercy surrounds everything and everyone in this universe, no exceptions. The Mercy-Giving -الرحيم- is exclusively for the believers, both in this world and the next.

‎ ‎ ‎مالك يوم الدين is the Sole Owner of the Day of Judgment who’ll bring the entire creation to account for their actions in the worldly life. So all that is not settled today shall be settled tomorrow in the presence of our Lord, and His witnesses.

‎ It is Allah alone we worship and pray to, and it is Allah alone we seek refuge in from the trials of this worldly life. We ask Allah to guide us to the right path which has many benefits including:
•Being counted among the ranks of the righteous people,

•turning to Him collectively as believers (the prayer says, “Guide us..”, and not, “Guide me alone..”,

•showing solidarity with the believers of the past, present, and the future because our Lord is One.

We ask Allah to guide us along the straight way, upon which the prophets, the truthful ones, the martyrs, and the righteous people walked previously.- that is the path favoured by the Lord.

We also seek refuge in the Lord and beseech Him to protect us from the path of all those who incurred His wrath due to their arrogance, and the path of all those who were led astray due to ignorance.

In a Hadith Qudsi, Allah says:
“I have divided prayer between Myself and my servant into two halves, and My servant shall have what he has asked for..”
-part of the narration from the Book of Salah in Sahih Muslim

“..قَالَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى قَسَمْتُ الصَّلَاةَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ عَبْدِي نِصْفَيْنِ وَلِعَبْدِي مَا سَأَلَ..”
جزء من الحديث القدسي في كتاب الصلاة من صحيح مسلم

Surah al-Fatiha – Part 1

D30A2B79-3ABE-49BC-B890-53CF89544AD8
‎It is the opening of the Quran and our daily prayers are nullified without it. Fatihah teaches us how to praise our Lord.
‎نعبد الله كما يريد الرب, لا كما يريد العبد.
‎We worship Allaah how He wants to be worshiped, not how the slave wants to worship Him.

Entire da’wah is based upon calling people to the right path, and this Surah is a good starting point to do that. It covers the belief in Allah and some of His attributes, and talks about the Last Day and accountability.

‎3- المُراجعةُ
Revision:

Never give up on revision. Be prepared to recite Qurān in ease and in difficulty, in happiness and in sadness, in health and in sickness. Qurān will be your only companion in this world and the next that will guide you from darkness to light, and if you honour you, Qurān will shield you from Hell-fire in the afterlife, and misery in this life.
Steps to revision can be split as follows:

‎تلاوة •
Recitation:
There is reward for every letter that you recite for the sake of Allah. Reciting in a loud voice will help you in recognizing the rules, and reciting in a low voice will help you in speeding up the recitation a little (and is also more rewarding).
